Autism Hero James Durbin, American Idol Contestant
Thursday, February 24, 2011 at 10:06PM I don't watch TV except for Star Wars: The Clone Wars, but when news came that someone with Asperger's and Tourrette's made a splash at auditions for American Idol, I decided to make an exception. On YouTube, I watched James Durbin's audition and was very impressed by his talent. I also thought he had an amazing girlfriend and was happy to see they loved they had for each other.
James Durbin is an inspiration for the autism community in many ways. One, he is in a loving relationship. Two, he is a father. Three, he has incredible talent and is performing in front of millions of people. That is quite an accomplishment for anyone, nonetheless someone on the autism spectrum.
Today, it was announced that James Durbin has made the top 24. Starting next week for the first time ever, people will be allowed to vote online for their favorite Idol contestant through Facebook. People will be allowed to vote 50 times. I urge the autism community to use some (or all) of those votes to help James Durbin make into the top 12, and who knows, perhaps he will one day become the next American Idol.
It is important that as a community we support our own.
With all that said, I thank you for reading today's blog entry and wish everyone a most awesome day of awesomeness.
