Miracle at my Local Target Store
Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at 4:58PM I would have gone insane had this been 4 years ago. No, I would have gone beyond insane. I would have ran up down the aisles screaming my head off for joy. People would think I was a super weirdo, but that would be alright because in my world I would have just won the lottery....Big Time.
I used to be a big Star Wars collector. I mean really big like Super Collector status. When I sold off my collection, I got about $10,000. A lot of that money was spent trying to impress this girl by buying her really expensive tickets to a certain movie premiere that starred a pirate known as Jack Sparrow. That idea didn't work out as I had hoped at the time. The girl couldn't accept my gift and the two us didn't speak to each other for about two years after that event.
With that said, I still check out the toy aisles form time to time and occasionally check up the Star Wars websites for the latest Star Wars related news, collecting and otherwise. I am actually getting better because now I don't know everything that is coming out. As a matter of fact, I don't even care that much anymore about the new Star Wars stuff coming out, but it is still exciting to look at the toys anyway.
This year, Hasbro is reintroducing the original retro-Star Wars packaging that the toys had in the late 70's and early 80's. To say the least, the new toys that are coming out look amazingly beautiful in their cardboard prisons. I <3 retro-look Star Wars packaging. As of 2006, they started this promotion called Ultimate Galactic Hunt where about 10 select figures would get a special foil treatment for the packaging. In other words, the parts that say Star Wars have this beautiful silver foiling process that just looks amazing. Now, this packaging is not that common. The same figures also come without the foiling process, so it is rare to get an Ultimate Galactic Hunt version. When I was still collecting in 2006, the most of these specialty figures I found at one time was 2 or 3 and their packaging was kind of on the beat up side. Finding Ultimate Galactic Hunt figures can be a somewhat challenging task to accomplish.
Now, today in the middle of the day while at Target I found not 1 or 2 but 6 Ultimate Galactic Hunt figures. The most I have ever seen at one time. And, many of them were very desirable figures like a Clone Trooper and Sandtrooper! Usually, toys are stocked in the morning and are gone in two seconds. Especially, Ultimate Galactic Hunt figures. So, these must have been recently stocked. But, what was weird was that there was so many of them. If I was still a collector, I would have hit the jackpot, big time. I take this as a very good sign. I feel as if I am very lucky right now and a new era in my life is beginning. I think this feeling comes from all the purging that I have been doing. I have been very thorough looking at tiny things that I often overlook. I am being brutal with what I am getting rid of, including throwing away copies of the school magazine that featured my articles as cover stories. But, if I don't have a use for something then why hold onto the past?
Anyway, with all that said, I was feeling so lucky after finding all those awesome action figures of awesomeness that I bought myself some Lucky Charms. I should have probably bought a lottery ticket while I was at it.
